CMS The Emperors New Clothes 

Content Management Systems (CMS) have undoubtedly had a huge impact on the industries perception of the change process. Its mere re-packaging of Configuration Management terminology has allowed organisations to suddenly understand the importance of:

+24x7 (to meet the Internet Global Market)
+Integration of many Authors and Designers (not just S/W Engineers)
+Integration and Delivery of Content
+Distributed Deployment
+Streamlining (due to high market pressure)
+Reproducibility and Recovery

This in turn has resulted in huge interest and investments.
  

However, cynically, these are all things that traditional Configuration Management has always promoted. I guess the only exception to traditional CM is it introduces formal authoring templates.

Ah! the power of Markitecture [sic] ?

In some ways, It reminds me of the childhood tale "The Emperors new clothes".
